“IT GETS BETTER”
The It Gets Better Project was created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach — if they can just get through their teen years. The It Gets Better Project wants to remind teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone — and it WILL get better. The website itgetsbetter.org is a place where young people who are lesbian, gay, bi, or trans can see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future. It’s a place where straight allies can visit and support their friends and family members. It’s a place where people can share their stories, take the It Gets Better Project pledge, watch videos of love and support, and seek help. Take the pledge to help make it better for others.

Immigration Enforcement Separated Thousands Of U.S.-Born Children From Parents

by Ellen Coule

I voted Barack Obama into office in 2008. Even though I maintain that our current President is a better option than McCain, I am not alone in feeling duped by the Obama campaign.

Case in point: Fiscal year 2011 marked a record number of deportations. A whopping 396,906 immigrants were removed from the U.S. under President Obama’s administration, more than any past president in a one-year span.

Why is this so awful? These deportations forced nearly 46,500 parents to abandon their American-born children. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will not release information stating how many of these deported parents were the sole caretaker of their children, leaving us to wonder how many children were forcibly abandoned and left to face the indescribable hardships of surviving life without their loving birth parents.

Thousands of these children end up in the foster care system. We already know just how hopeless this is. Many of these children will be stuck in the system until they are 18 years old, at which time they will essentially be thrown out onto the streets and left to their own devices. That is, if they haven’t already run away and succumbed to the allure of gangs, prostitution, crime and street violence.

But those numbers still don’t give us good insight into just how large the problem is. Before 2011, data on deported immigrants with American-born children was not required to be tracked by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.) is outraged that Customs Enforcement is not honoring the Obama administration’s claim that undocumented immigrant parents of citizen children are a low priority for removals. ”This report is the latest example of the terrible human toll our broken immigration system is taking on families. Tearing families apart like this is inhumane and completely unacceptable,” said Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard. “We can’t continue to claim to value families while deporting parents in the tens of thousands. This must stop.” As a passionate supporter of social responsibility, I agree 100% with Rep. Roybal-Allard.

My 7th grade English teacher once clarified a commonly misspelled word: “There is ‘a rat’ in separate,” she said.

I believe that is the case here as well. =/

Sandra Fluke: The Recent Personal Attacks are an Attempt to Silence the Voices of Women

Tell Rush Limbaugh’s advertisers: Stop supporting Rush’s unforgivable attacks on women as “sluts”: http://bit.ly/xi4zNr

sandrafluke:

“I thank the thousands of women and men, including members of Congress, Georgetown University students and faculty, and total strangers of all political stripes across the country who have offered kind words and support following recent egregious personal attacks.

We are fortunate to live in a democracy where everyone is entitled to their own opinions regarding legitimate policy differences.  Unfortunately, numerous commentators have gone far beyond the acceptable bounds of civil discourse.

No woman deserves to be disrespected in this manner. This language is an attack on all women, and has been used throughout history to silence our voices.

The millions of American women who have and will continue to speak out in support of women’s health care and access to contraception prove that we will not be silenced.”

He’ll answer several of your top-voted questions during a special interview, which will take place on Monday, January 30, live from the White House. A selection of people who submit questions will also be invited to join a Google+ Hangout live with the President during the interview.

[[ Greedmont TV presents a documentary by Corey Davis on a group crack addicts in Atlanta who live outside in a small cove behind a Texaco, infamously dubbed as the “Living Room.” They share their stories and tell us what it’s like to battle with a deadly addiction to crack-cocaine. “Growing up I never had a father, because he was out running the streets getting high… Right around the time I was born, the mid 80′s, African-American communities across the country was struck by the crack epidemic. Which robbed us our prideful culture and instantly perverted it into a counter-culture where playgrounds became warzones and families were destroyed.” ]]
